My Last Year Advice & Goals for the Year

Hello beautiful people!

I’m sorry it has been a while since I have last talked to you all, I have been taking some time off blogging to spend time with friends & family before classes start. I had been desperately needing some time to decompress & refocus before this school year started, but now I am back & ready to kick this year off right! It is absolutely crazy to me that I am already in my senior year of college. It honestly doesn’t even feel real & let me tell you the time flew by so freaking fast. I have changed so much since coming into college & I am so beyond blessed to have made so many great friends, my lovely boyfriend & made memories that will last me a lifetime! I have learned so much since I first started at Grand Valley & I wanted to share some takeaways from the past few years today. So let’s get started!

Never turn down an opportunity

College is the time to try new things! Coming into everything my first year, I had no clue that there would be a club or event for literally everything under the sun. I never thought that I would be a part of a newspaper team, but the opportunity came for me to do photography for our school newspaper & I just couldn’t let that opportunity slip through my fingers. Don’t be afraid to try things that you never thought you would do & go after every opportunity!

Connect with your professors

I didn’t learn this one until my second year of school, but connecting with your professors is the best advice I can give! Your professors are there to help you in any way they can. Becoming close with your professors can help you better enjoy the class & possibly open up new opportunities for your career field! When I first came into the advertising major, I was worried I wouldn’t connect with any professors, but once I met them & made an effort to get to know them, the easier it was for me to enjoy my class!

Don’t stretch yourself too far

You get busy & that is a part of life. I know you will want to get involved in everything & be a part of many different things in college, but this is also a time to have fun & not worry about too many things. Enjoy your free time & don’t let yourself become overly busy!

Make friends for life

I was always told that the people you meet in college would become your best friends for life & this has been 100% true. I came to college not knowing if I would connect with anyone else the way I did with my friends from high school, but I have made friendships that I know will last a lifetime!

Failure is OK

Something that was hard for me to grasp was failure. I was an all around A/B student in high school & coming into college I thought it would remain the same, but I was definitely wrong about that. After my first semester at college, I was put on academic probation which ended up kicking my butt back into high gear & got me back to where I needed to be. Failure is a part of life & it is important to learn from your mistakes and be able to move forward! So next time you fail at something, don’t let it bring you down, use that as a stepping stone to do better next time.

Be You

It is ten times more tiring being someone else so, just be Y-O-U! I promise everything will fall into place if you just be yourself. When I first started at Grand Valley, I found myself trying to be something I just wasn’t. Now I have found my own unique style & I couldn’t be happier! In anything you do just always stay true to yourself.

My past few years at Grand Valley have taught me so much (and I’m still not quite done) & I am so thankful for all the opportunity that this campus has brought to me. I cannot wait to see what this year has to hold for me. My goals this year are to savor every moment, continue to work hard & to learn as much as I can as I finish out my last year! I hope you all have an amazing rest of your week & continue to spread positive vibes wherever you go. Talk soon!

Sending Positive Vibes,

Body Positivity + Loving Yourself

Hello beautiful friends!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend & are ready to kick off this week strong! I have had the craziest week last week few weeks with work & it has been taking quite the toll on my well being & everyday routine. I have noticed that I am way less motivated to work on anything else in between work because I am so physically exhausted all the time. All this got me thinking about my body & how I have been treating it lately. I have always struggled with my body & how I look but lately, I am working on loving myself for the way I am. I thought I would share some life tips that I try my best to follow in order to become more positive about my body & myself

Social Detox

One of the things that always tends to bring me down about myself is social media. Don’t get me wrong I love social media & posting new content on it, but while scrolling through my feed most days it is hard to not compare myself to the other girls that I see on social media. Lately, I have been trying to take some time away from social media & focus on everything going around me. Honestly, it has been one of the most enlightening experiences I have done. Now I’m not perfect & I don’t do this every day, but taking a detox from social media has helped me focus on loving myself and my body the way it is!

Affirmations are key

I have been trying to keep a list of things that I find positive about myself! I try every morning to read them to myself or remind myself of them throughout the day. Treating my body well & learning not to be negative about my flaws is what these affirmations are all about. Instead of looking at myself & listing off the things I hate, I try to turn those negatives into positives. Little affirmations make my day & help boost my confidence when I need it!

Exercise for YOU

When I first started going to the gym, I thought I had to do it in order to look a certain way which ended up not really accomplishing anything. I wasn’t motivated & I became frustrated with my body when I wouldn’t see any progress. Now that I am getting back into a routine & all my focus is just on bettering my overall wellbeing! I am starting to feel more motivated to push my body to new limits instead of trying to look a certain way & I have never felt better about myself!

Dress for your body

Throw on your favorite outfit & strut your stuff! Nothing makes me feel more confident about my body than putting on one of my favorite outfits & killin’ the day. Don’t try to wear clothes that don’t fit your body just for the sake of looking like other girls. Wear things that work for your body type & strut your stuff!

Accept yourself

Learning to accept yourself is one of the healthiest things you can do! I know I will probably never be a size 2 or 4 so accepting my body type is all I can do at the end of the day. I have bigger hips & a bigger butt which is totally great! Don’t get me wrong I wish I could look like some of the girls I see online, but I can’t change the way that my body was designed. Acceptance is key when it comes to loving your body at the end of the day!

There are so many ways that you can improve your view towards your body & how you choose to live each day in achieving love for yourself! I hope some of these tips help you find peace with your body &  help you learn to love yourself in new ways. Have an amazing rest of your week & I can’t wait to talk to you all again soon!

My Latest Obsessions + August Goals

Hey there everyone!

So we are already in August! Where did all the time go? I feel like this summer has flown by & my last year of college is right around the corner. I have been looking forward to August since this summer started, mainly because I am finally taking a week vacation! I am taking a road trip to New Hampshire with my boyfriend to visit family for a week. The past few years we have rented a cabin on this beautiful lake near my grandpa’s house & this year is our first time back in a year. I am especially excited for this year because it is the first year that my boyfriend is coming out to that side of the country! I have been going to New Hampshire since I was really young so, that fact that someone I love is finally coming to a place that holds a special place in my heart makes me super excited. Now that we are in this new month it means that it is time for new obsessions & new goals. I am pumped for what this month has to hold for me & I cannot wait to share these new obsessions with all of you!

Graphic Tees

There is nothing I have loved more this summer than throwing on a cute pair of shorts & a graphic T! They are comfortable & light for those warm summer days & easy to layer for a night on the town. Some of my favorites include anything with a cute coffee saying on it or hipster” 90’s references on it!

Planners

We are only a few weeks away from classes starting again & to be honest, I am actually looking forward to it! Not really looking forward to homework, but I’m excited to finally be on a schedule again. I know, I know, I’m a weirdo! However, lately, I have just been missing having somewhere to be (besides work) or something to wake up in the morning for. I absolutely love shopping for planners for this time of year. They are versatile & planners make it easy for me to organize everything going on in my life at the moment!

Nailed It!

I just recently came across this show called Nailed It on Netflix & boy oh boy is it something! I am someone who enjoys watching cooking shows especially really cheesy & funny ones so this show definitely delivers on the cheesy front. It’s all about not so great home bakers who try to match difficult Pinterest worthy recipes! It is honestly so stupidly funny & I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a good laugh.

Fate Crew Shop

I absolutely adore this online store! They have super cute sunglasses & graphic T’s that are perfect for your summer wardrobe. I just bought a cute shirt from there  & I cannot wait to take pictures & share them with all of you. Their quality is great & I would 10 out of 10 recommend it to all of you!

Lavender Body Oil

I received this oil, by WISH, in my FabFitFun box this summer & I cannot stop using it! I love the scent of lavender & I basically have it all over my room. It is such a refreshing & relaxing scent which makes it a must-have during nights that I can’t sleep or just need a little relaxation. I use a little dab of it on my arms before bed which helps me fall asleep faster & wake up feeling more refreshed in the morning. I absolutely love this product!

Now for some of my goals this month!

  • Get on a gym routine & stick with it
  • Take a break from my phone
  • Become more organized with my blogging
  • Make time for more adventures
  • Finish my summer book

What are some of your obsessions & goals for this month? Share some in the comments below!

I hope you all have an amazing rest of your week (we are almost there)  & have a KILLER weekend! There is so much to look forward to this month & I am very excited to see what August has in store for me. I’ll talk to you all again soon!
