15 Tips to Help Boost Your Self Confidence

Hey everyone!

I hope you all are doing amazing given the circumstances. Life here in Jersey City has been going okay. The weekend here was gorgeous so needless to say we were spending as much time as we could outside! I have been doing a lot of self-reflection about confidence especially since I have been living in leggings with my hair in a bun for the past 2 months. I thought we could all use a little confidence boost to brighten our spirits especially during this weird time when we are all feeling like hermits staying inside all day. I know some of these tips might sound repetitive or maybe a little cliche but these are just some little things you can do to help boost your self-confidence every day!

1. Dress Up

You don’t have to go full suit and tie or anything, but changing out of your sweatpants and hoodie can really make an impact on how you see yourself. Throwing on a pair of high-waisted loose fit jeans and a cute t-shirt and you’ll see yourself in a whole new light!

2. Positive Affirmations

I know every article you have probably been reading always says this, but it’s crazy what a little positive talk can do to help boost your confidence on days where you feel at a new low. Some examples can include, ” I love my body and everything it does for me,” or ” I am a fearless woman,” or ” I will do amazing things today.” Saying a few small phrases before starting your day or throughout the day can really bring a boost to your mood throughout the day.

3. Kill the negativity

I can be the worst offender when it comes to saying negative things about myself. When you surround yourself with negative images or people you can start to feel less confident in who you are. Try unfollowing accounts on IG who make you feel self-conscious about your body/personality or cut ties with people in your life who put a damper on your confidence. As a blogger, I follow a lot of people with perfectly curated Instagram posts, but I have chosen to unfollow those accounts who promote an image that I don’t necessarily want to see every day on my feed. Nothing against those other influencers, but I have personally found it to be better for my confidence to follow accounts who promote body positivity or fun/positive vibes on their page. The same thing goes for people, if you want to live in confidence, then you need to surround yourself with influences who build you up instead of making you feel inferior!

4. You can change your perspective

Maybe there are some things about yourself that you would love to change whether it be physically or personality-wise but you may not be able to change those things in real life. I know this might sound crazy, but I read an article that said to mentally photoshop yourself and it really stuck with me. If you are unable to physically change the way you see yourself, then why not try and mentally make yourself the “perfect” version of yourself.

5. Be kind and generous

When you give to other people who are in need, it definitely has an impact on how you will see yourself. Giving back is good for the soul so go out there and make someone’s day!

6. Accept your “imperfections”

Are there things I wish I could change about myself? Absolutely! But I have come to accept the parts of myself that I may not be able to change. Any time I am feeling down about myself whether it’s physically or personality-wise, Nick always reminds me to “rock what I got,” so that’s exactly what I do! Speaking on a physical note, I may never be able to change my wide hips, but I will rock what I got and love my body for everything it does for me.

7. Surround yourself with positive influences

This basically goes with getting rid of the point of the negative influence point I made earlier. When you surround yourself with positive influencers on social media or in real life, you feel better about yourself because of the good influence they give you!

8. Power pose it up!

You probably feel silly standing in front of a mirror and striking a pose to make you feel confident, but it has been proven to work in many situations when it comes to boosting self-confidence. Doing this can help you feel more aware of how you come across to others in your path. Maybe if power posing isn’t for you, the next time you are out and about, maybe try being more self-aware of your body language in certain situations can be a helpful tactic in giving you more confidence throughout your day!

9. Jam out

Every day before work (before quarantine) I always make it a must to play confidence generating playlist or podcasts in the morning. Dancing and jamming out to music that makes you feel excited and ready to attack the day just puts you in a confident mindset. Some of my favorite playlists are Confidence Boost, Mood Booster, or any playlist under the Mood category in Spotify!

10. Sweat out any frustrations

Whenever I’m feeling down about myself, the one thing that always helps is to do some form of physical activity. This could be anything from doing a full-body sweat sesh or going for a walk around your neighborhood. After you sweat out your discomforts, it can be a huge mood booster for the rest of your day.

11. Just say F*** it!

One thing that has really helped me with my confidence is just learning to not give a f*** about what people think about me! I know that it can be easier said than done and believe me there are some days where I can’t help but compare myself to others, but you are perfect the way you are and you are uniquely you. So don’t worry about what others are thinking about you because it’s not worth your time or energy!

12. Groom Yourself

When you walk around feeling gross then obviously your confidence isn’t going to be super high because you probably aren’t feeling your best. A small disclaimer, I think all of you reading this are beautiful just the way you are and you don’t need makeup or a fresh blowout every day to feel confident and beautiful. All I’m saying is that when you put a little effort into your appearance it can make all the difference compared to if you were just sitting lounging around all day in nothing but sweats and your hair in a knotted bun. There is no better feeling than walking around after just getting your hair done, eyebrows waxed, or throw on a little bit of makeup just to make yourself feel like a new human!

13. Do some soul searching

Last year I did some “soul searching” to try and figure out why I was feeling so down about myself and why little things that would happen would completely deplete my confidence. I really got to the root of all my insecurities and tried focused on trying to slowly heal myself from the inside out in order to help myself feel more naturally confident in my day to day life. This was definitely not an easy process and I am still working on it every day, but once you get to a root of a problem, it can be a little bit easier to build up your confidence every day!

14. Quit comparing yourself

This kind of goes hand in hand with the “just say f*** it” point I made. Once you stop comparing yourself to other people, you will be that much happier with yourself. Especially as females, we should be bringing each other up instead of judging and comparing one another.

15. You’re awesome, never forget that

Plain and simple! No one is ever allowed to dull your shine, so go out in the world and be the amazing person you are.

Again, I know that some of these points can sound a little cliche, but if any one of these points is something that you needed to hear today, then that is all the satisfaction I need from you reading this post. Confidence can come in waves, some days you are just going to be more confident than others, but I hope that some of these tips can help you get you to a place where you feel amazing about yourself in every aspect of the word. Share some of your tips and tricks below in the comments & I can’t wait to talk again next Tuesday!
