10 Lessons We Learned from Sex and The City

Hi everyone ~

Happy Tuesday! I hope you all have had a great kick-off to your week. I’m so pumped that we made it to March. It feels like a new breath of fresh air has hit me and I’m just in a really great mindset. I hope you all are feeling that way as well! I have been doing some re-watching of my favorite shows, just feeling nostalgic I guess, and I have started re-watching Sex and the City. I have always admired the show for its honesty on certain topics about life, love, and sex, which got me thinking about different life lessons we may have learned through watching this show. Now don’t worry, I won’t go into all sorts of details about the different lessons. I grouped up more so the overarching lessons that are woven into the storyline of the show. During today’s day and age, I believe some of these lessons can be used now and as we go forward through life.

You don’t need to share the same beliefs as your bestie

What makes most friendships unique is that you can have different beliefs as one another, but find commonalities in other places. Take a look at the 4 women in the show. All different backgrounds, different love languages, and different goals, but they are still best friends that would do anything for one another. Differences make life interesting and create growth in your friendship because you are constantly learning from that other person. If your friends are truly your friend, then they will appreciate your honesty and understand that whatever you say to them is for their good.

Dare to be different

If you want to chop all your hair off, go chop your hair. If you want to wear skinny jeans, even though straight leg jeans are “the trend,” where the skinny jeans. You should do and be whoever you want to be as long as you are confident in yourself!

Cherish your friends

Friendships are forever, so cherish those around you. True friends will never judge you or leave you behind for something better. It takes a lot to nourish those friendships so you don’t lose them. Your friends will be straight up with you, be there for you when something is wrong, and constantly support your goals so, don’t let them go.

No guy is perfect

No man is without their flaws. Even when you have found “the one,” they have their flaws. Even though your partner has some flaws, it doesn’t make them any less lovable or not worthy of being in your life, it’s just how you choose to see those flaws that will determine how you live with that person. In short, there is no such thing as the perfect man, but there can be the perfect man for each of us. Make sense?

It’s okay to be a Samantha from time to time

Sometimes you need to put yourself first, focus on what would make you happy, and pursue your aspirations by any means necessary. And sometimes it’s good to let yourself on the loose and act how Samantha would act (if you know what I mean).

Never settle for anything less than what you deserve

I mean the title says it all. Carrie and the women from Sex and the City taught us not to give up on our dreams and such.No one deserves to feel like they aren’t receiving the love, acceptance, or even s*x they deserve. Never settle unless it’s truly what you want.

It’s okay to be alone from time to time

We all need alone time. Life can be a lot. Relationships can be a lot. So if you need a breather, take that time to yourself. In other cases, sometimes it is good to be single from time to time. This gives you the chance to focus on yourself, your friendships, and your career. They say that you probably shouldn’t be in a relationship if you aren’t fully happy with yourself, so maybe take this time that you are alone and learn to be happy in all other aspects of your life.

Everyone has their own path

The 4 main women in the show are all at different points in their lives and are ultimately wanting different things in their lives. Charlotte wanted to find love, get married and start a family. Miranda wanted a fabulous career. Samantha wanted a fabulous career and great s*x. Carrie wanted real and passionate romance with the right guy. Everyone has their path and that’s okay! Just because someone is in her 30’s doesn’t mean that she is desperate to get married. She may be perfectly content to just have a career and be perfectly fulfilled in life. We all have different goals and aspirations in life, doesn’t mean that one person’s path is the correct or only path that we all need to follow.

You’ll have to kiss a lot of frogs

Sometimes to get to your prince charming, you need to kiss a lot of frogs. Every man you are with teaches you a lesson, as proven by the premise of the whole show. To finally be with the person we are meant to be with, you need to learn those lessons no matter how hard or weird they may be.

Shoes will never break your heart

If there was ever a lesson to take away from the women of Sex and the City, it’s that sometimes we love our shoe collection more than people. I mean what a great way to denounce a problem you are having than with some therapeutic shoe shopping?

I hope you all enjoyed this blog as much as I enjoyed writing it. It was definitely a fun project to write and if you want to see more content like this from me, please reach out and let me know. Talk soon!

Beginners Guide to Manifestation

Hi Everyone ~

I hope you all have been having a good week. It is so close to the weekend and I am very excited to do the same thing I have been doing all week, which is not much. I have been better about posting more consistent content during the week, which has kept me pretty busy, but I’m not gonna lie, I kinda miss working. I have been reminded, constantly, by my mom that everything will happen when it’s meant to happen. And she is 100% right. I can’t rush the things that are meant to happen in their own respective time. All I can do is take it day by day. On that note, I have been taking more of an interest in the theory of manifestation. I have always believed that the universe works in our favor, and if we put out the idea of this perfect life we want to live, then the universe can help put us in that direction we are striving for. That being said, that doesn’t mean that we don’t have to put in any work to achieve this dream. Manifestation is all about taking real steps to move towards that goal, but with the idea in mind that the universe is there to help guide you in that direction. I know this is a lot of confusing information to take in so, I listed out a few beginner steps to help you manifest the life that you are desiring to live.

Be Specific

Whenever you are setting goals for yourself, it’s important to keep your goals specific. For example, if you are wanting to lose weight, don’t just write down “I will workout.” Maybe try writing it like this, “I will workout Monday through Friday at 7 am for 4 weeks straight.” This makes your goal specific and helps you to to better visualize exactly what you are wanting to accomplish. Vague goals don’t get you anywhere. You need specifics to better guide each day to one day accomplish that goal.

Be Realistic

Now I would love to be as famous as the Kardashians and have my own reality TV show, but maybe that’s not exactly realistic. When coming up with goals, it’s important to keep your dream goals, in perspective and make them accomplishable. If you are manifesting 1 million dollars in the next 24 hours, maybe that’s not the most realistic thing to manifest. Now, I’m not saying that you shouldn’t try and manifest your dream of one day having 1 million dollars, but make that dream more achievable. You can manifest these goals to become reality, but you have to understand that it takes a lot of inner work to make that happen.

Align Yourself

This is the classic, saying one thing and then doing the exact opposite. Going back to my example about losing weight, you can’t say that you want to lose weight and then you can’t turn around and eat a bunch of junk food and expect the same results. To achieve the goals and life you want, you need to align your everyday life with those goals. Take a moment to imagine the life you are trying to manifest for yourself. What are you feeling? What are you doing? What’s different compared to your current life? Focus on those details because those are what are going to help you build that dream. To achieve that “dream” you need to change certain aspects of your life. Thoughts, feelings, actions, and all!

Put in the Effort

One of the common misconceptions of manifestation is the belief that you just sit back and wait for the good things to come into your life. Hate to break it to you, but getting to your desired life is going to take a lot of effort on your part to happen. Change starts with you. You don’t wait on anyone else to get things started. Only you can show up for yourself every day. I learned this through my “journey” with BeachBody. No one else can make me workout or work hard to lose weight or feel more confident in myself. Only I can make that change and push myself to accomplish that goal. If you want to be happy, then you need to step up and start making yourself happy.

Be Aware for Signs

I am a big believer in signs from the universe. Obviously, you need to put in the work for whatever it is you are wanting to accomplish, but that doesn’t mean that the universe doesn’t throw you signs every now and again to show that you are on the right (or wrong) path. It’s not exactly a step-by-step game plan that is brought to your attention. However, each moment in our lives is meant to teach us something or direct us in a specific direction. If I hadn’t been let go from my position, I probably wouldn’t be writing this blog for you all to read or creating fun content on my other social platforms. There are reasons for everything, so don’t ignore those signs because they are helping to guide you to the path you are meant to be on.

I hope you all enjoyed reading this post. I know manifestation can be a bit confusing and to be honest, I’m not 100% sure if I fully understand it either. The main point I want to get across is, your dream life doesn’t work unless you do. There are signs that are helping to guide you, but unless you put in the work then nothing will progress the way it’s supposed to. I will talk to you all again soon!

7 Ways to Avoid Burnout

Hi everyone~

Happy Tuesday and I hope you are all having a good kick-off to your week. Many of you may already be aware of this, but I am trying to take more initiative to focus on wellbeing this year. Last year, I believe we all were in the same state of mind, dealing with all sorts of emotions and anxiety due to the state of the world. 2020 was the year of constant burnout for me. I felt like I was just not in a happy mindset and I was just going through the motions. I started researching how some of the top CEO’s and hardworking individuals avoid burnout working 24/7, and below are some of the common ways that these hardworking people avoid bad burnouts throughout the year.

Forget Balance; Find Harmony

I found this concept super interesting! The basis of what this means is to stop working in a position that doesn’t bring you any joy and work in a field doing something that brings you excitement every day. It’s said that it’s easier working a 12-15 hour day doing what you love, overworking on a team or in a role for 5 hours doing something you hate. This way, there is so much more harmony and passion in the work you are providing for your company and team. You shouldn’t have to balance your day to day, your job should be something that brings harmony not just to your work, but to your home life as well. I know right now we can’t all just up and quit our jobs in the hopes of finding something better, but at the end of the day if you are not happy with what you are doing, then maybe it’s time to start looking for something different.

Know when to take a step back

I feel like we live in a world where we as individuals just want to keep going and pushing forward in whatever we do. We just don’t know when we always need to take a step back from what we are doing. Burnout is caused when you are constantly going with no breaks and no ends in sight. If you are constantly working yourself into the ground with no sense of how hard you may be pushing your mind and body, then maybe it’s time for you to take a step back and focus on yourself. Take a 3 day weekend and go somewhere or just stay at home and rest! Sometimes you just need a mental break away from all the craziness and honestly, it helps you to better refresh yourself to get back into the swing of things.

Schedule in break time

I know it seems silly to have to schedule a break throughout your day, but honestly, you should! It’s so easy to become engrossed in the work you are doing that suddenly you look up and it’s 4 o’clock and you did not have a break. Just taking 30 minutes out of your day (even if it’s busy) can make all the difference for how you go about the rest of your workday and workweek.

Change your environment

I know that since most places are closed indoors so it can be hard to change your environment and go sit at a coffee shop or go to a library to get some work done. If you are wondering how to change your scenery without having anywhere open for you to go and sit, maybe check out Airbnb’s in your area? The great thing about working remotely is you can work from anywhere as long as you have wifi access! You don’t necessarily have to find the most expensive Airbnb in your area, but if there is a reasonably priced home for you to get away from your space for 1 or 2 days, why not try it and see how you like it?

Nap more often

I used to think that naps were a waste of time. I figured I might as well use the time that I was going to spend napping in a more productive matter. However, I have come to realize if I am tired and need to rest for 30 minutes, wouldn’t that, in turn, make me feel more refreshed and ready to attack all the things I want to do? The best thing you can do for your body is listening to it, and if you are hearing your body tell you that it’s tired and in dire need of some sort of rest, then take 30 minutes or an hour to nap.

Workout

As Elle Woods once said, “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands, they just don’t,” (Legally Blonde). Obviously, the last part of that quote doesn’t apply, but exercising indeed gives you endorphins, which in turn make you happier! Yes working out sometimes can suck beforehand and during, but afterward, you can’t deny that you feel great afterward. Whether you want to lift weights, spin, or practice yoga, moving your body is a great way for you to release any built-up stress and emotions that may come during your week.

Find a hobby

One of the reasons a lot of us experience burnout is because not all of us have a hobby that we do outside of work. So instead of doing a passion project to take our mind off of work and everyday life, we as still thinking of all the responsibilities we have which in turn makes us feel more overwhelmed and stressed. It’s important to have something that we like to do outside of work to give us more joy at the end of a long day or week. Do that paint by number you have been postponing, go out and do a fun photoshoot, cook a fun dinner you have been wanting to try, whatever brings you joy, you should make time to do so!

I hope you all enjoyed reading this post and I hope you learned some interesting tips in the process. I know I did! Burnout is not something to take lightly and if there are things you are able to do to avoid burnout in your life, then why not give them a shot? If you have any additions you would like to share, let me know in the comments how you avoid burnout day to day. We’ll talk again soon!

30 Self-Care Activities To Try

Hi Everyone ~

I hope you are having a good start to your week! Right now I am currently writing this while watching buckets upon buckets of snow falling down in Jersey City and it got me thinking about all the fun things I could try while we’re stuck inside. I have been trying to focus more on the importance of self-care this year and just taking time to relax and focus on myself for a while. I think when most people think about self-care they think that it’s only a girl thing or it’s just skincare and bubble baths. However, self-care can mean a number of things! It can be anything that brings you joy and relaxes you. I created a list of 30 different activities that I believe everyone should try while we are working from home or just stuck inside. If you have any recommendations that you’d like me to give a shot, let me know in the comments and I can document my experience. 8 Healthy Habits to Adopt in 2021

Hi Everyone ~

I hope you all had a great weekend and are having a good kick off for the week! I have been in a little bit of a funk lately figuring out what my path looks like, so I wrote this current post in hopes of helping me establish good habits to bring forth with me this year. Enjoy!

Find time for passion projects

I was really good at the beginning of quarantine last year making time for trying new projects, making time to write, and just doing activities that brought me joy in a time where there wasn’t any. And towards the end of last year, I really didn’t have the motivation to do anything new or fun which is what I want to change. I believe if we make more time this year to focus on the projects and activities that get us excited, then we as a whole will just feel happier throughout the year. I know we all get busy with everyday life (which sucks), but I hope that we can set aside even an hour of our day to doing something that brings us a bit of joy, then isn’t that time spent worth it?

Read and learn more often

I had a professor in college that would constantly remind us to “fill our reservoir.” What he meant by this was to never stop learning and absorbing information. I believe it’s super easy to fall into this state of comfort and feel like we know everything we need to know so we stop trying to learn new things. I truly want to read and learn more this year because that is the only way to grow as a human being both personally and in your career. Try signing up for newsletters pertaining to your interests, read a self-help book to help improve your personal life. Anything you can do to never stop learning a new skill or new habits to adapt can help improve your overall well being.

Move your body daily

I’ve learned the most important thing about working out is not necessarily always about lifting the heaviest weights or doing the most squats, but just focusing on always moving your body. I started working out with Beachbody on Demand and the one thing that is constantly reiterated is always move your body. If you need to modify a workout because it’s pushing your limits a bit far, then modify and still move your body instead of quitting because you feel like you aren’t able to do it. A habit that I believe we should all try to adopt this year is the importance of constantly moving on the daily. Even if it’s your rest day, try going for a short walk around your neighborhood or practice some beginner yoga to stretch and move. Especially with everything we went through last year in quarantine of always sitting around and not being active, this year we should try and do the exact opposite!

Do not disturb time

Nick has probably called me out for being on my phone time well over 100 times last year. As a society, we have an addiction to our phones. No shame, just sharing the facts. Especially being in quarantine majority of 2020, I spent a lot of time on my phone watching Netflix, scrolling through social media, endlessly going through TikTok’s, it was a lot of screen time on top of working on a laptop for work. This is a bad habit that I am really wanting to change and spend more time reading or doing activities that I haven’t had the motivation to do because I was distracted by my screen. Try creating a no screen box, turn your phone and other distracting devices to silent, then go and do something for 1 hour. See how you feel and maybe slowly add more time the next time you put your screens away. You may find a new hobby that you never would have thought you would have liked!

Meditation time

This is a habit I hope you all try and incorporate into your healthy habits this year because I feel like it is a great way to take 10-15 minutes in the morning or night to really check in with yourself and how you are feeling. I have found that whenever I have meditated in the morning, it helps me get my mind in check and set my intentions throughout the day. When I say intentions, I don’t mean the list of items that I want to achieve, but more so how do I want to feel as I go about my day (ie: focused, calm, happy) and how I want to feel at the end of my day (ie: strong, relaxed, accomplished). YouTube has a ton of free 10 minute guided meditations or you can check out the app Headspace!

Enjoy food that also nourishes you

I have always hated the idea of fad diets and cutting out foods that are actually meant to nourish your body. I’m not trying to bash on anyone else’s food choices because, believe me, I am the last person to judge on eating habits. This year I am trying to not cut out foods I enjoy but focus on adding in good food that also nourishes me at the same time. Your body is meant to support you and since I have started training with Beachbody, I have been taking more of an interest in what I put in my body. I mean I’m working out hard, why ruin that with bad food right? But don’t get me wrong ya girl still loves her Chick-fil-a but I just use it more as a treat on occasion, not lunch every other day. What I want to get across, is food should not be something that has to taste bad in order for it to be healthy. I have found plenty of recipes online that are healthy and they taste delicious and don’t cut out hardly any ingredients. At the end of the day, enjoy your food because it’s there to nourish and support your body.

Make more time for sleep

Sleep is necessary to function. If I want to go to bed at 9:30 pm, why should I be mocked for wanting to go to bed early and catch up on sleep so I am a better version of myself in the morning? My best advice is to listen to how your body is feeling throughout the day, if you feel like you have overexerted yourself then why not go to bed early. Lately, I haven’t been sleeping the best at night so I have probably been crawling in bed around 9 pm because I know my body is exhausted. Whenever you feel like you need to get some sleep whether it’s at night or maybe even a midday nap on your break, you should take that time for extra Z’s because you will wake up feeling a bit more refreshed and ready to take on your day.

Practice daily gratitude

This year I received a gratitude journal and I have actually been writing in it pretty consistently, which has never been true in the past, but I have loved writing in it every morning. It just puts me in a good mood waking up and focusing on all the good things in my life instead of waking up and going straight to my social media and filling my head with all the outside things. I think this is an important habit to incorporate because it’s a great way to check in on the little things that you are grateful for like, your family, your significant other, your warm cup of coffee in the morning, etc. All of these little things that make our lives just a bit better can make such a difference in your mood throughout your day and week!

I hope you all enjoyed this post and maybe you’ve taken away a few new good habits that you are wanting to adopt this year. I’d love to hear your own healthy habits that you are trying to adopt this year, so be sure to go share them below in the comments!

10 Ways to Make Your Mornings More Intentional

Hi Everyone!

I hope you all are having a great start to your week. I have been feeling like last week was super slow. I guess not having a whole lot going on at the moment can make weeks go by at snail speed, but what are you going to do? Now that we are in a new year, I have been trying to make 2021 the year of reflection and self-focus. I want to use this year to truly better my life and not just keep telling myself that my life is great when it may not be. 2020 was a tough year for a lot of people which is why I am ready for a change of pace and to stop feeling sorry for myself if things don’t go as planned. One of the ways I am trying to make my days less sh*tty is to focus on making every day intentional. I don’t want to spend my days on the couch and not working on anything that brings me passion or just sit around not forcing myself to take charge of the day I have. What’s a better way to kick off your day intentionally than kicking off your morning’s strong. I know in the past I have shared morning routines but I want to share an updated list of healthy habits, I am working on incorporating into my daily routine to have a focused intention throughout the day.

Plan out your morning

I read that planning out what you want to do in the morning the night before can help you better visualize what you want the day to accomplish. Personally, if I have something planned to do early in the morning, I feel more energized to roll out of bed early to accomplish the task. So the night before, write out everything you want to realistically accomplish in the morning. This could look something like this:

  • 7:00 – Wake Up
  • 7:15 – 10-minute meditation
  • 7:25 – Quick workout
  • 8:00 – Shower and get ready
  • 8:30 – Journal

Writing out a basic step by step plan of what you want to do in the morning, really helps to energize you throughout your morning and sets the tone for how you want to attack the rest of your day.

Wake up a couple of hours before you have to be anywhere

I don’t know about you, but I hate feeling rushed in the morning, or really in any situation. I like being able to take my time and get around at my own pace. So typically, I like to get up a few hours before I have to go anywhere. This allows me to ease into my day, workout, shower, and get around before I have to go do anything. You don’t have to get up at the crack of dawn before you have to leave. My thought is if you have to be somewhere at 10:30 am, maybe try waking up at 7:30 am and use your time in the morning productively.

Don’t go right to the technology

I will be the first to admit that I can be addicted to my phone, probably just like the few of you who are reading this post. It can be tempting to go right into your phone to watch a show or check your social media platforms, but I have read that it can be a lot less overwhelming to not go right into your phone first thing in the morning. Instead, try to find an activity that can distract you from going straight to your phone in the morning. Maybe grab that book that you have been wanting to read for months, or write in a journal about your day the other day, listen to music, or cook up something good for breakfast. Whatever keeps your hands and mind busy can help keep you from going right to your phone in the morning. I challenge you to go without looking at your phone in the morning for 1 hour and see how it can affect you in the morning.

Journal

Over Christmas, my mom and aunt bought me these journals created by Rachel Hollis to help me achieve my goals and aspirations in life. I have actually enjoyed writing in it each morning. It helps me focus clearly on what I am grateful for and focus on all the positives I have accomplished in my life. Even if you don’t have these specific journals that I am using, I highly recommend journaling in some form to help get your thoughts in order and provide you with clarity before you start your day.

10 min meditation

I never thought that I would be the kind of person that would get into meditation, but doing this every morning has truly helped me center myself and connect with my intentions for the day. I recommend the 10 minute morning meditation from Goodful on YouTube because it’s super easy to listen to and focuses on your intentions and feelings that you want for your day. There are lots of videos or even podcasts that you could find that you can listen to in the morning to help you clear your head for a busy day, so take advantage of your resources and try sitting with your thoughts before you do anything else in the morning.

Make a solid breakfast

I will be the first to admit that I don’t always eat a solid breakfast in the morning. In college, I was always on the move between classes and work, so I could typically survive on a granola bar and a giant cup of coffee. But, now I realized that my body needs more nutrients in the morning for me to last through the day. Make sure what you are eating is good for you and not just a bowl of cereal in the morning. I recommend fruit smoothies, protein shakes, egg sandwiches, avocado toast, etc. Putting some good food in your body can truly help set your energy levels up for success throughout the remainder of your day. As an added plus if you love to cook, this would be a fun time to experiment with some new recipes!

Get up and moving

Laying around all morning scrolling through TikTok’s is not a way to start your day. You’ll start scrolling and pretty soon you’ll look at the time and see half your day is gone. Why not do something in the morning that gets you moving around a bit? You don’t have to do a 1-2 hour workout (unless you want to) to feel active. You could go for a morning walk around your neighborhood or try some morning yoga/stretching, anything that gets your body up and around can help make you feel accomplished first thing in the morning and set the tone for accomplishing your other tasks during the day.

Do something that inspires you

Feeling inspired in the morning is probably the best way to feel good throughout the day. I love listening to podcasts while cleaning our small space. Having a clean space helps me to better focus and feel inspired throughout my day. As for the podcast, I love listening to podcasts that make me feel good about myself and inspire me to do something outside of my comfort zone and work on projects that bring me joy. Whatever inspires you (painting, reading, exercising, etc.) you should work on incorporating that into your morning to set the tone for your day.

This week, I challenge you to take charge of your morning and make everything you do more intentional. I can guarantee that you will see a change in how you go about your day, as well as your days moving forward. I hope you all enjoyed reading this post and let me know in the comments what new content you would like to see from me this year!

2021: New Year & New Beginnings

Hi everyone!

First I want to wish you all a Happy New Year and I’m wishing you all have one of the best years ever, because let’s be honest 2020 sucked. Plain and simple. I also wanted to apologize for basically being MIA since the end of July. 2020 was definitely a year of a lot of struggles for me personally and unfortunately those struggles took away the only thing that was keeping me happy and positive during this whole pandemic. Last year I struggled a lot with anxiety, as I’m sure a lot of you did as well. Between being stuck inside all the time and not having anywhere to go can truly take a toll on your emotions and mental state. I was also having to work from home like a lot of you full time, in a position I don’t believe I was super happy in and I let it affect my work. At the moment, I am no longer with Starcom, but I am truly grateful for the time I spent there and I am just looking to find a position that not only pays well but brings me joy every day. I bet a lot of you have been feeling the same way as I have been and are really wanting this new year 2021 to be a complete reset. Even if we are still working from home, I’m just praying for some positivity and less hatred happening in the world.

With all that being said I am ready for this new year to be a complete refresh on my life entirely. I want to be happy. I want to be happy in every aspect of the word. In my job, relationship, body image and mentally/soul. No matter what 2021 throws my way, I want to be the best version of myself that I can be. A few nights ago, Nick and I had a really deep conversation about being happy and taking care of ourselves and it truly opened my eyes to how sick of allowing myself to fall into the background and not treat myself the way I deserve to be treated. Every year I feel like I write out these new years resolutions that I start off really strong doing and then by the end of the year, I completely fail at every single thing. I’m sure you all have felt the exact same way. This year, I want to change writing out all the cliche resolutions and focus on the resolutions that are specific to how I live my life every year. Let’s do this together and be honest with yourself about the areas in your life that you truly want to fix!

Start writing again

Like I said earlier, I know I have been MIA since last August but I want to make a change and get back into writing. Writing has always been my favorite way to share my emotions and reach those that may be going through the same thing that I may be going through. I started this blog back in 2017 and I let writing for this blog, which brought me a lot of joy, turn into a chore. I want to be more intentional with posting and truly get on a real schedule and actually write the content that I want to write.

Build more intimacy between Nick and I

I’m sure there have been couples dealing with this all the time and it’s something that Nick and I have discussed on multiple occasions. I know that things like intimacy being discussed can sometimes weird people out, but it’s 2021 can we please discuss s*x and intimacy openly? We are not perfect as a couple and there are some areas that we could definitely improve on. Now I won’t go into any details, because clearly this is for Nick and I to work on, but I do think that it’s important for me to share realistic things like this on my page because, I’m sure there are plenty of other couples how go through the same exact thing!

Workout FOR ME

Every year. Every year I share that I want to workout more and every year, I am pretty solid in the beginning, and then I get in my own head and my own way and just completely start to crumble. I actually workout because I enjoy it and once I start to feel like it is becoming a chore that I need to do, then I start to slow my roll. I want to workout for me and because it makes me happy, not because I feel like I need to look a certain way or loose a specific amount of weight to be happy. Now 2020’s quarantine, definitely put some extra pounds on, which SUCKED. I started personal training and I definitely think it helped me a lot, but sometimes my eating habits and lack of motivation really hurt me and set me back more than pushing me forward. This year, I want to workout, but do it for me and do exercises that make me excited to workout and not feel like it is a job I need to do in order to feel good about myself.

Get my anxiety under control

This year more than ever, I have had terrible anxiety. Whether it be work related or just the stresses that 2020 brought forth to me, I don’t think that I handled my anxiety the best that I could have. I’ll be completely honest with you, I suck at sharing my emotions and admitting defeat. So instead of actually taking care of my anxiety earlier this year, I basically called it a “momentary weakness” and kept going with my day. I mean how f*cking dumb was I? Sorry mom for the language, but seriously. Anxiety is not a moment of weakness, it is something that I should have taken more seriously at the time and really focused on myself to make myself better in the end. I want to be able to better handle situations that may put a lot of stress on me and not allow it to consume my day or my relationships with people.

Journal in my Daily Journal every day (be honest)

This Christmas my mom got me this Start Today Journal created by Rachel Hollis to start bettering my life moving into 2021. This journal is meant to daily take a look at your life and be intentional on everything you write to help you get to a better place and live your life to the best of it’s ability. I love doing things like this and I’m actually really excited to do this every morning and night. I want to be honest because let’s be real no one ever made any progress by lying to themselves.

Eat Better (and really stick to it)

I’ll be the first to admit, I love to eat! I have no issues with eating food but I do struggle with learning to keep it under control. Now I am not the unhealthiest eater in the world, but I can admit that there is room for improvement. Nick is also notorious for eating not the best but since he has a faster metabolism than me, I basically gain his weight on top of my own. Now I have definitely felt the quarantine weight and I am trying hard to get it back down and be healthier all around. So Nick and I both are making a conscious effort to buy healthier food items, stop snacking, cut down on eating out and focus on just making better choices overall. We want to make sure that we are leading the best life that we can live and not get wrapped up in treating our bodies like crap.

Give myself more grace

Let’s be real, this year was tough on all of us. During 2020, I found myself being too hard on myself for things that I truly couldn’t control. Which in turn caused a lot of anxiety, crying and sleepless nights. My mom would always remind me to give myself more grace on the areas in life that I can’t control, which is tough for someone like me who thrives on having control of my situation. So this year, I really want to change that and be more kind to myself and not put so much pressure on my shoulders in the areas of my life that I may not be able to fully control.

I probably could think of an endless amount of resolutions that I am determined to stick to going into 2021, but these are the main areas of my life that I see needing the most help moving into 2021. I do want to share a few smaller intentions that I want to bring into 2021 because I don’t want to forget about these areas that could use some improvement as well.

  • Read a new book every month
  • Make more effort to call those I love
  • Cook one new recipe a week
  • De-Clutter more often (physical and emotional)
  • Learn a few new skills for work
  • Master plant care

I am wishing you all the best with your resolutions/intentions for this new year and please god let 2021 be way better of 2020! I will talk to you all again soon!

7 Things No One Tells you About moving to a new City

Hey everyone ~

I know it’s been a while since I last talked to all of you. Nick and I were back home in Michigan to visit family and I swear I lost track of the days so posting became super hard for the blog. But I am back and ready to get back to everyday life. It’s so crazy to think that we are basically through with July and almost through 2020. Who else is ready to kick 2020 to the curb and embrace 2021? Anyways, the past 3 weeks at home in the mitten (Michigan) were absolutely amazing. We really haven’t been home for that long since before we left for the east coast last August! It was nice to relax, catch-up with everyone and just forget about the world events for a while. We are only a month away from celebrating our first year together on the east coast and it has me reflecting a lot about the journey it took to get here from graduating in April to working in our hometowns for the summer to packing up the Volvo and driving 13 hours to a whole different state. I thought today would be a great time to talk about moving on and starting a new life in a new city and new state because believe me, I wish there were a few things I would have known before moving out here!

You will feel all sorts of emotions

Obviously moving is a huge adventure and you will definitely be excited, but leaving the only state you’ve ever known will be really difficult. Think of when you left home for college, take those feelings and multiply them by 10. That was your first time leaving the only home you’ve ever known and yes where it’s super exciting, it can be absolutely terrifying, overwhelming and at times exhausting. The same emotions become heightened when you move to a whole new city and state. Regardless of all the overwhelming emotions you will feel, above everything else you will feel an excitement like never before!

Finding a home is no easy task

Before Nick and I even found our place in Jersey City, we lived with my aunt and uncle in Fairfield, Connecticut for 5-6 months before being able to move. Half that time spent in Connecticut was spent working hourly jobs while job searching in NYC, commuting long hours back and forth once we had jobs and saving as much money as we could to afford a home close to the city. Like all great adventures, finding a home can take time. Not only are you paying rent (which is ridiculous out here) but you are also having to save for all the different fees (luckily we didn’t have any extra fees besides our deposit) and move in expenses. Finding a home, especially in NYC/Jersey City, can be a b*tch! An apartment could be on the market one day and gone the next or an apartment could be the perfect place on paper but when you view it in person it can be a dump. I think Nick and I were fairly lucky with our apartment searching; we only viewed 6 different apartments before signing with the building we are currently in. It can be a long and grueling process, but believe be the end goal is so worth all the viewings and searching we did.

Making a place feel like “home” takes time

When Nick and I moved, it took us a long while before our apartment and city started to feel like our new home. Even to this day we are still working everyday to make our home feel like our home. Everyone experiences this at their own pace. In a weird blessing kinda way, I feel like being quarantined in our 480sqft apartment has really forced Nick and I to put a lot of time and effort into our place in order to make it feel more like our home and not just somewhere we are squatting until we figure out our next move.

Making friends is hard and will take LOTS of time

Back in Michigan we left a lot of really amazing friends behind and I think that was the part that scared me the most about moving. I was scared to not only loose touch with the friends we had back home, but I wasn’t sure how exactly we’d make friends. New York and New Jersey are filled with so many people, so you’d think it would be easy, but everyone has their own groups or your own schedules so it can be increasingly difficult to find people you vibe with. It really took us a few months to really get acquainted with the people in our area and grow a relationship, so just be patient and you will find your group!

You will get lost and look like a tourist

Especially in a city like New York, you will get turned around and go uptown when you meant to go downtown or vice versa. You will probably walk 6 blocks in the wrong direction. When you move somewhere new, it will take time before you learn the layout of everything. I am still whipping out my phone to find my way around town and I’m sure one day I will figure out exactly how to get from point A to point B, but until then I will happily look like a tourist trying to find my way around town.

It’s going to cost you a lot more than you realize

I knew that moving was going to be expensive. Moving from Michigan to Connecticut wasn’t super expensive, but moving from Connecticut to Jersey City, was a pretty big financial investment for both Nick and I. Not only did we have to pay for our rent and deposit for the first month, but purchasing furniture items like a mattress and bed frame along with gas for driving back and forth to New Jersey back to Connecticut; all of that can really add up. Before you do any kind of moving whether you are moving to a city or not, just be prepared financially to handle all of the little loose ends that will come up. Some good advice we received before moving was to make sure that you save up double maybe even triple what you need for rent in order to be able to stay afloat after putting down your security deposit, extra fees and first months rent.

You will change a lot

I mean this in a good way. Moving out of state really forced Nick and I to take charge and become real adults in order to get to the place where we wanted to be. I also believe living in a new area has given us some new points of view on how we view the world since we now live in an area where there is a lot of cultural diversity around us. You will learn lots of new things about yourself when you move somewhere new. I’m not exactly sure how to describe it, but you will see a lot of things differently than you did before and you will learn just how far you can really push yourself in a new setting!

You will miss a lot of random things about home

Since moving there have definitely been a lot of things I miss about Michigan. I miss being close to our friends and family, driving, Coney hot-dogs, all the lakes, the list could go on forever. One of the biggest things I miss, especially being stuck inside because of Covid, would be backyards. I know random right? I remember going onto Instagram and I would see friends hanging out tanning in their yards or just hanging out and the closest thing I have to that in the city is my fire escape outside. Don’t get me wrong we love it out here, but there are definitely a lot of random things you will miss about your home state.

You won’t love everything about your city

The amount of fire trucks and cop sirens that go past our block everyday is honestly amazing. I did not think I would hear nearly this many sirens when we moved. I think some people expect that when they move somewhere new they need to love everything about their new home but the truth is no home is perfect. Hell there were thing about Michigan that I didn’t love. You just have to decide on whether those little things are deal breakers or not. If you really love the area you are in then those small annoying things can easily be looked over!

I hope you all enjoyed reading this post and I hope you gained some new information that you can bring forward with you no matter where you go. If you have any points to add to this post, I would definitely love to hear your experiences moving to a new place. I will talk to you all again next week!

Latest Obsessions + July Goals 2020

Hi Everyone ~

Man it seems like a hot minute since I have last posted one of these. The beginning of June had a lot happening, so I wasn’t posting a lot and didn’t get a chance to share this series with you last month. I have a lot of new obsessions to share and the goals this month have me super excited and motivated to accomplish them this month. In other news, I am super excited to be going home to Michigan this Saturday for 2 weeks! Nick and I have visited home to see family and friends before but it was only for a long weekend. So this is the first time that Nick and I will be home for longer than 3 days since we moved here last August. We are super excited and I can’t wait to share our trip back home to the mitten with all of you. That’s really the only life update I have for you all, so please enjoy this months latest obsessions and goals!

Sex & The City TV Show

Since moving closer to NYC, I’ve had the sudden urge to binge all 6 seasons of Sex and the City. I have always had a love for the show, so I’ve really loved re-watching the show! Who do you identify as: Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte or Samantha?

Nintendo Switch Lite

Last month Nick and I bought a Nintendo Switch Lite to share and believe me when I say this has me gaming more than ever. I did cave in and buy Animal Crossings: New Horizons which has me addicted on growing my island! This has been amazing on the days that I am bored and have finished scrolling through all social media and TikTok because it gives me something to work on and build while being stuck in home most of my days.

Home Chef

Nick and I have been cooking half our meals with Home Chef for a little over a month now and I cannot rave about it enough! I was a little nervous whether or not I would like the the meals because some of them looked a little boring to me, but after cooking with Home Chef for a while now, I can honestly say that almost all the meals hit it out of the park. I believe it is a hair more expensive than Hello Fresh, but I will say it is totally worth trying out! We also wouldn’t have been able to do this without the support of Nick’s family which is so appreciated while we are in this weird time nationally.

Kiehl’s Since 1851 Olive Fruit Oil Repairative Hair Mask

I’m not usually one to say that a product is life changing, however I’m going to break my own rule and tell you that you need to buy this now! Years of applying direct heat to my hair has done a good amount of damage and I have tried lots of different shampoos and conditioners to help with this problem and most of them have fallen a bit flat. However this hair mask, hits it out of the park. I believe this works on just about every hair type, it’s super gentle and deeply nourishes your hair. I don’t use it every day, but I try to use it a few times a week to help heal my hair throughout the week! I linked it here for you to check out and I believe it’s only $25 on Sephora’s website!

Sudio Headphones

I recently heard about the company Sudio and their luxury earphones and knew that I needed to try them out. Not only are they super comfortable to wear, but they have a noise cancelling option that is super helpful when working out or focusing on a project for work. I have always loved my airpods, but these definitely are on a whole new level. I linked their website above if you’d like to learn more about this brand and I definitely hope you consider buying some new earphones!

Brimm Boutique

I may have found a new love for this boutique! I recently bought some shoes and a few tops from this boutique and I have absolutely fallen in love with everything I received. Their products are pretty reasonably priced for a boutique and the quality is amazing. They also have really great things on SALE all the time! I linked their website above and I highly recommend you check them out. I love supporting small businesses and if you feel the same way, then you definitely need to shop their website!

Now time for some goals:

  • Stay consistent with my new training routine
  • Complete this months to-do’s for the Wedding
  • Finish one new book
  • Get back into and commit to a solid morning routine
  • Clean out/sell items in storage and closet

I hope you all enjoyed this months installment of my latest obsessions and goals for this month. I wanted to keep it short and to the point today, but I have some new and exciting content ready to post for the upcoming weeks. Thank you so much for reading and I will talk to you all again next Tuesday!
