10 Lessons We Learned from Sex and The City

Hi everyone ~

Happy Tuesday! I hope you all have had a great kick-off to your week. I’m so pumped that we made it to March. It feels like a new breath of fresh air has hit me and I’m just in a really great mindset. I hope you all are feeling that way as well! I have been doing some re-watching of my favorite shows, just feeling nostalgic I guess, and I have started re-watching Sex and the City. I have always admired the show for its honesty on certain topics about life, love, and sex, which got me thinking about different life lessons we may have learned through watching this show. Now don’t worry, I won’t go into all sorts of details about the different lessons. I grouped up more so the overarching lessons that are woven into the storyline of the show. During today’s day and age, I believe some of these lessons can be used now and as we go forward through life.

You don’t need to share the same beliefs as your bestie

What makes most friendships unique is that you can have different beliefs as one another, but find commonalities in other places. Take a look at the 4 women in the show. All different backgrounds, different love languages, and different goals, but they are still best friends that would do anything for one another. Differences make life interesting and create growth in your friendship because you are constantly learning from that other person. If your friends are truly your friend, then they will appreciate your honesty and understand that whatever you say to them is for their good.

Dare to be different

If you want to chop all your hair off, go chop your hair. If you want to wear skinny jeans, even though straight leg jeans are “the trend,” where the skinny jeans. You should do and be whoever you want to be as long as you are confident in yourself!

Cherish your friends

Friendships are forever, so cherish those around you. True friends will never judge you or leave you behind for something better. It takes a lot to nourish those friendships so you don’t lose them. Your friends will be straight up with you, be there for you when something is wrong, and constantly support your goals so, don’t let them go.

No guy is perfect

No man is without their flaws. Even when you have found “the one,” they have their flaws. Even though your partner has some flaws, it doesn’t make them any less lovable or not worthy of being in your life, it’s just how you choose to see those flaws that will determine how you live with that person. In short, there is no such thing as the perfect man, but there can be the perfect man for each of us. Make sense?

It’s okay to be a Samantha from time to time

Sometimes you need to put yourself first, focus on what would make you happy, and pursue your aspirations by any means necessary. And sometimes it’s good to let yourself on the loose and act how Samantha would act (if you know what I mean).

Never settle for anything less than what you deserve

I mean the title says it all. Carrie and the women from Sex and the City taught us not to give up on our dreams and such.No one deserves to feel like they aren’t receiving the love, acceptance, or even s*x they deserve. Never settle unless it’s truly what you want.

It’s okay to be alone from time to time

We all need alone time. Life can be a lot. Relationships can be a lot. So if you need a breather, take that time to yourself. In other cases, sometimes it is good to be single from time to time. This gives you the chance to focus on yourself, your friendships, and your career. They say that you probably shouldn’t be in a relationship if you aren’t fully happy with yourself, so maybe take this time that you are alone and learn to be happy in all other aspects of your life.

Everyone has their own path

The 4 main women in the show are all at different points in their lives and are ultimately wanting different things in their lives. Charlotte wanted to find love, get married and start a family. Miranda wanted a fabulous career. Samantha wanted a fabulous career and great s*x. Carrie wanted real and passionate romance with the right guy. Everyone has their path and that’s okay! Just because someone is in her 30’s doesn’t mean that she is desperate to get married. She may be perfectly content to just have a career and be perfectly fulfilled in life. We all have different goals and aspirations in life, doesn’t mean that one person’s path is the correct or only path that we all need to follow.

You’ll have to kiss a lot of frogs

Sometimes to get to your prince charming, you need to kiss a lot of frogs. Every man you are with teaches you a lesson, as proven by the premise of the whole show. To finally be with the person we are meant to be with, you need to learn those lessons no matter how hard or weird they may be.

Shoes will never break your heart

If there was ever a lesson to take away from the women of Sex and the City, it’s that sometimes we love our shoe collection more than people. I mean what a great way to denounce a problem you are having than with some therapeutic shoe shopping?

Beginners Guide to Manifestation

Hi Everyone ~

I hope you all have been having a good week. It is so close to the weekend and I am very excited to do the same thing I have been doing all week, which is not much. I have been better about posting more consistent content during the week, which has kept me pretty busy, but I’m not gonna lie, I kinda miss working. I have been reminded, constantly, by my mom that everything will happen when it’s meant to happen. And she is 100% right. I can’t rush the things that are meant to happen in their own respective time. All I can do is take it day by day. On that note, I have been taking more of an interest in the theory of manifestation. I have always believed that the universe works in our favor, and if we put out the idea of this perfect life we want to live, then the universe can help put us in that direction we are striving for. That being said, that doesn’t mean that we don’t have to put in any work to achieve this dream. Manifestation is all about taking real steps to move towards that goal, but with the idea in mind that the universe is there to help guide you in that direction. I know this is a lot of confusing information to take in so, I listed out a few beginner steps to help you manifest the life that you are desiring to live.

Be Specific

Whenever you are setting goals for yourself, it’s important to keep your goals specific. For example, if you are wanting to lose weight, don’t just write down “I will workout.” Maybe try writing it like this, “I will workout Monday through Friday at 7 am for 4 weeks straight.” This makes your goal specific and helps you to to better visualize exactly what you are wanting to accomplish. Vague goals don’t get you anywhere. You need specifics to better guide each day to one day accomplish that goal.

Be Realistic

Now I would love to be as famous as the Kardashians and have my own reality TV show, but maybe that’s not exactly realistic. When coming up with goals, it’s important to keep your dream goals, in perspective and make them accomplishable. If you are manifesting 1 million dollars in the next 24 hours, maybe that’s not the most realistic thing to manifest. Now, I’m not saying that you shouldn’t try and manifest your dream of one day having 1 million dollars, but make that dream more achievable. You can manifest these goals to become reality, but you have to understand that it takes a lot of inner work to make that happen.

Align Yourself

This is the classic, saying one thing and then doing the exact opposite. Going back to my example about losing weight, you can’t say that you want to lose weight and then you can’t turn around and eat a bunch of junk food and expect the same results. To achieve the goals and life you want, you need to align your everyday life with those goals. Take a moment to imagine the life you are trying to manifest for yourself. What are you feeling? What are you doing? What’s different compared to your current life? Focus on those details because those are what are going to help you build that dream. To achieve that “dream” you need to change certain aspects of your life. Thoughts, feelings, actions, and all!

Put in the Effort

One of the common misconceptions of manifestation is the belief that you just sit back and wait for the good things to come into your life. Hate to break it to you, but getting to your desired life is going to take a lot of effort on your part to happen. Change starts with you. You don’t wait on anyone else to get things started. Only you can show up for yourself every day. I learned this through my “journey” with BeachBody. No one else can make me workout or work hard to lose weight or feel more confident in myself. Only I can make that change and push myself to accomplish that goal. If you want to be happy, then you need to step up and start making yourself happy.

Be Aware for Signs

I am a big believer in signs from the universe. Obviously, you need to put in the work for whatever it is you are wanting to accomplish, but that doesn’t mean that the universe doesn’t throw you signs every now and again to show that you are on the right (or wrong) path. It’s not exactly a step-by-step game plan that is brought to your attention. However, each moment in our lives is meant to teach us something or direct us in a specific direction. If I hadn’t been let go from my position, I probably wouldn’t be writing this blog for you all to read or creating fun content on my other social platforms. There are reasons for everything, so don’t ignore those signs because they are helping to guide you to the path you are meant to be on.

I hope you all enjoyed reading this post. I know manifestation can be a bit confusing and to be honest, I’m not 100% sure if I fully understand it either. The main point I want to get across is, your dream life doesn’t work unless you do. There are signs that are helping to guide you, but unless you put in the work then nothing will progress the way it’s supposed to. I will talk to you all again soon!

7 Ways to Avoid Burnout

Hi everyone~

Happy Tuesday and I hope you are all having a good kick-off to your week. Many of you may already be aware of this, but I am trying to take more initiative to focus on wellbeing this year. Last year, I believe we all were in the same state of mind, dealing with all sorts of emotions and anxiety due to the state of the world. 2020 was the year of constant burnout for me. I felt like I was just not in a happy mindset and I was just going through the motions. I started researching how some of the top CEO’s and hardworking individuals avoid burnout working 24/7, and below are some of the common ways that these hardworking people avoid bad burnouts throughout the year.

Forget Balance; Find Harmony

I found this concept super interesting! The basis of what this means is to stop working in a position that doesn’t bring you any joy and work in a field doing something that brings you excitement every day. It’s said that it’s easier working a 12-15 hour day doing what you love, overworking on a team or in a role for 5 hours doing something you hate. This way, there is so much more harmony and passion in the work you are providing for your company and team. You shouldn’t have to balance your day to day, your job should be something that brings harmony not just to your work, but to your home life as well. I know right now we can’t all just up and quit our jobs in the hopes of finding something better, but at the end of the day if you are not happy with what you are doing, then maybe it’s time to start looking for something different.

Know when to take a step back

I feel like we live in a world where we as individuals just want to keep going and pushing forward in whatever we do. We just don’t know when we always need to take a step back from what we are doing. Burnout is caused when you are constantly going with no breaks and no ends in sight. If you are constantly working yourself into the ground with no sense of how hard you may be pushing your mind and body, then maybe it’s time for you to take a step back and focus on yourself. Take a 3 day weekend and go somewhere or just stay at home and rest! Sometimes you just need a mental break away from all the craziness and honestly, it helps you to better refresh yourself to get back into the swing of things.

Schedule in break time

I know it seems silly to have to schedule a break throughout your day, but honestly, you should! It’s so easy to become engrossed in the work you are doing that suddenly you look up and it’s 4 o’clock and you did not have a break. Just taking 30 minutes out of your day (even if it’s busy) can make all the difference for how you go about the rest of your workday and workweek.

Change your environment

I know that since most places are closed indoors so it can be hard to change your environment and go sit at a coffee shop or go to a library to get some work done. If you are wondering how to change your scenery without having anywhere open for you to go and sit, maybe check out Airbnb’s in your area? The great thing about working remotely is you can work from anywhere as long as you have wifi access! You don’t necessarily have to find the most expensive Airbnb in your area, but if there is a reasonably priced home for you to get away from your space for 1 or 2 days, why not try it and see how you like it?

Nap more often

I used to think that naps were a waste of time. I figured I might as well use the time that I was going to spend napping in a more productive matter. However, I have come to realize if I am tired and need to rest for 30 minutes, wouldn’t that, in turn, make me feel more refreshed and ready to attack all the things I want to do? The best thing you can do for your body is listening to it, and if you are hearing your body tell you that it’s tired and in dire need of some sort of rest, then take 30 minutes or an hour to nap.


As Elle Woods once said, “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands, they just don’t,” (Legally Blonde). Obviously, the last part of that quote doesn’t apply, but exercising indeed gives you endorphins, which in turn make you happier! Yes working out sometimes can suck beforehand and during, but afterward, you can’t deny that you feel great afterward. Whether you want to lift weights, spin, or practice yoga, moving your body is a great way for you to release any built-up stress and emotions that may come during your week. 

Find a hobby

One of the reasons a lot of us experience burnout is because not all of us have a hobby that we do outside of work. So instead of doing a passion project to take our mind off of work and everyday life, we as still thinking of all the responsibilities we have which in turn makes us feel more overwhelmed and stressed. It’s important to have something that we like to do outside of work to give us more joy at the end of a long day or week. Do that paint by number you have been postponing, go out and do a fun photoshoot, cook a fun dinner you have been wanting to try, whatever brings you joy, you should make time to do so!

30 Self-Care Activities To Try

Hi Everyone ~

I hope you are having a good start to your week! Right now I am currently writing this while watching buckets upon buckets of snow falling down in Jersey City and it got me thinking about all the fun things I could try while we’re stuck inside. I have been trying to focus more on the importance of self-care this year and just taking time to relax and focus on myself for a while. I think when most people think about self-care they think that it’s only a girl thing or it’s just skincare and bubble baths. However, self-care can mean a number of things! It can be anything that brings you joy and relaxes you. For me, it may be a nice essential oil shower or even cleaning the apartment and for someone else, it may be reading a book or watching their favorite movie. Make time to do whatever self-care activity makes you feel happier and refreshed to go about your week. I created a list of 30 different activities that I believe everyone should try while we are working from home or just stuck inside. 8 Healthy Habits to Adopt in 2021

Hi Everyone ~

I hope you all had a great weekend and are having a good kick off for the week! I have been in a little bit of a funk lately figuring out what my path looks like, so I wrote this current post in hopes of helping me establish good habits to bring forth with me this year. Enjoy!

Find time for passion projects

I was really good at the beginning of quarantine last year making time for trying new projects, making time to write, and just doing activities that brought me joy in a time where there wasn’t any. And towards the end of last year, I really didn’t have the motivation to do anything new or fun which is what I want to change. I believe if we make more time this year to focus on the projects and activities that get us excited, then we as a whole will just feel happier throughout the year. I know we all get busy with everyday life (which sucks), but I hope that we can set aside even an hour of our day to doing something that brings us a bit of joy, then isn’t that time spent worth it?

Read and learn more often

I had a professor in college that would constantly remind us to “fill our reservoir.” What he meant by this was to never stop learning and absorbing information. I believe it’s super easy to fall into this state of comfort and feel like we know everything we need to know so we stop trying to learn new things. I truly want to read and learn more this year because that is the only way to grow as a human being both personally and in your career. Try signing up for newsletters pertaining to your interests, read a self-help book to help improve your personal life. Anything you can do to never stop learning a new skill or new habits to adapt can help improve your overall well being.

Move your body daily

I’ve learned the most important thing about working out is not necessarily always about lifting the heaviest weights or doing the most squats, but just focusing on always moving your body. I started working out with Beachbody on Demand and the one thing that is constantly reiterated is always move your body. If you need to modify a workout because it’s pushing your limits a bit far, then modify and still move your body instead of quitting because you feel like you aren’t able to do it. A habit that I believe we should all try to adopt this year is the importance of constantly moving on the daily. Even if it’s your rest day, try going for a short walk around your neighborhood or practice some beginner yoga to stretch and move. Especially with everything we went through last year in quarantine of always sitting around and not being active, this year we should try and do the exact opposite!

Do not disturb time

Nick has probably called me out for being on my phone time well over 100 times last year. As a society, we have an addiction to our phones. No shame, just sharing the facts. Especially being in quarantine majority of 2020, I spent a lot of time on my phone watching Netflix, scrolling through social media, endlessly going through TikTok’s, it was a lot of screen time on top of working on a laptop for work. This is a bad habit that I am really wanting to change and spend more time reading or doing activities that I haven’t had the motivation to do because I was distracted by my screen. Try creating a no screen box, turn your phone and other distracting devices to silent, then go and do something for 1 hour. See how you feel and maybe slowly add more time the next time you put your screens away. You may find a new hobby that you never would have thought you would have liked!

Meditation time

This is a habit I hope you all try and incorporate into your healthy habits this year because I feel like it is a great way to take 10-15 minutes in the morning or night to really check in with yourself and how you are feeling. I have found that whenever I have meditated in the morning, it helps me get my mind in check and set my intentions throughout the day. When I say intentions, I don’t mean the list of items that I want to achieve, but more so how do I want to feel as I go about my day (ie: focused, calm, happy) and how I want to feel at the end of my day (ie: strong, relaxed, accomplished). YouTube has a ton of free 10 minute guided meditations or you can check out the app Headspace!

Enjoy food that also nourishes you

I have always hated the idea of fad diets and cutting out foods that are actually meant to nourish your body. I’m not trying to bash on anyone else’s food choices because, believe me, I am the last person to judge on eating habits. This year I am trying to not cut out foods I enjoy but focus on adding in good food that also nourishes me at the same time. Your body is meant to support you and since I have started training with Beachbody, I have been taking more of an interest in what I put in my body. I mean I’m working out hard, why ruin that with bad food right? But don’t get me wrong ya girl still loves her Chick-fil-a but I just use it more as a treat on occasion, not lunch every other day. What I want to get across, is food should not be something that has to taste bad in order for it to be healthy. I have found plenty of recipes online that are healthy and they taste delicious and don’t cut out hardly any ingredients. At the end of the day, enjoy your food because it’s there to nourish and support your body.

Make more time for sleep

Sleep is necessary to function. If I want to go to bed at 9:30 pm, why should I be mocked for wanting to go to bed early and catch up on sleep so I am a better version of myself in the morning? My best advice is to listen to how your body is feeling throughout the day, if you feel like you have overexerted yourself then why not go to bed early. Lately, I haven’t been sleeping the best at night so I have probably been crawling in bed around 9 pm because I know my body is exhausted. Whenever you feel like you need to get some sleep whether it’s at night or maybe even a midday nap on your break, you should take that time for extra Z’s because you will wake up feeling a bit more refreshed and ready to take on your day.

Practice daily gratitude

This year I received a gratitude journal and I have actually been writing in it pretty consistently, which has never been true in the past, but I have loved writing in it every morning. It just puts me in a good mood waking up and focusing on all the good things in my life instead of waking up and going straight to my social media and filling my head with all the outside things. I think this is an important habit to incorporate because it’s a great way to check in on the little things that you are grateful for like, your family, your significant other, your warm cup of coffee in the morning, etc. All of these little things that make our lives just a bit better can make such a difference in your mood throughout your day and week!
